Candidate Identification Requirements

Every examinee must present at least one form of identification to be admitted to the ACT Center. However, acceptable types of ID vary from one testing program to the next, and some testing programs may require examinees to produce additional identification, including admission letters or similar documents. In addition to following the general requirements in this section, refer to the exam protocols for exam-specific identification requirements.

Unless otherwise noted in an exam protocol, for an examinee's ID to be acceptable, it must include his or her name and photo, and it must be:

  • an original—not a photocopy or fax
  • unexpired
  • government-issued

IMPORTANT: You must be able to read the issuer's name, the expiration date, and match the name with the examinee name on the testing schedule. If you cannot, you must ask the examinee for another form of ID.

Acceptable forms of identification typically include:

  • driver's licenses
  • passports
  • military IDs
  • law-enforcement IDs
  • state IDs
  • resident alien IDs

Each exam protocol will specify whether other forms of identification are acceptable, or if any of these are not.
